Oversized Plaid Shirt

Dress : Primark, Shoes: George at Asda, Shirt: H&M, Sunglasses: Primark

I feel like this outfit defines my style at the moment. For the past month or so I have preferred to rock a much more casual vibe, mainly for the comfort and practicality.

Most of the time and even when I am dressing for work I have found myself reaching for the loose fitting tee’s which will I will tuck slightly into a pair of skinny . Or I have been picking a very simple dress with a pair of tights, both of these can be worn with ankle boots, ballet pumps and if you are brave enough trainers.

This particular outfit is my absolute fave and it gets worn an awful lot during the autumn time. I just love how you can create such an edgy vibe to a once boring jacket by using an item of clothing as an accessory – saves money too!!

I will add that is has been inspired by the Kardashians (I’m not even sorry); they tend to wear an oversized plaid shirt a lot tied around their waists to dress up their gym attire.

However, the main reason (well I say it’s the most valid point) it is very practical for this time of year, as layering is key to dressing in the colder months. There can be a downside to layering, you either get too hot or you end up lugging around so many items of clothing, hence why I like to get an oversized shirt to tie around my waist ... you can thank me later!

My Love for Shift Dresses

Dress: H&M, Sunglasses: Primark, Shoes: Primark, Watch: Michael Kors

I love shift dresses, for me they have now become part of my go to style as they are super easy to wear and perfect for all occasions.

As my body shape has changed drastically over the past few years, it has resulted in my wardrobe changing and new styles added. Long gone are the skater dress (well apart from two) and I have welcomed shift dresses into my life.

This style is great for most if not all body shapes and sizes, they can be extremely forgiving by hiding a multitude of sins or they can be cinched in around the waist to accentuate your curves; for me it is the first reason. This particular dress I bought a year ago is the perfect length, it can be worn on the cooler summer days with some cute shoes or sandals or you can team it with a pair of tights and ankle boots for winter.

For me it is the kaleidoscope pattern that drew me to this dress, the autumnal deep burnt, rustic shades compliment the print beautifully making it a little more sophisticated.

Sports Luxe Vibe

Top: H&M, Leggings: Topshop, Bomber Jacket: Primark, Trainers: Nike, Sunglasses: ASOS

For about two years I have been desperate to get my hands on a bomber jacket ever since I laid my eyes on a few in Topshop back in 2014/15 but the hefty price tag always left me walking away.

If you don't know by now, I am so picky when it comes to the right item of clothing or product especially when it comes to coats. Being extremely self conscious there are only certain styles I will go for and most bomber jackets are off the list as they are too padded... well that is until I found THE ONE in Primark last weekend, oh and did I mention it hardly left a dent in the purse too?

Really, what more would you want from a bomber jacket, it is light weight but has enough padding to keep you warm through the colder months, it goes with everything and looks exactly the same as the ones in Topshop!! I love how you can really switch your style up with just a jacket, for me this is not my usual style but I am liking the casual sports feel to it when I've added my fave trainers.

August Favourites

I've not done a monthly favourites in quite some time, it's probably around six months or so as I last posted one when we were in the flat. I have to say it is not my favourite thing to blog if I am being honest, for me it is something that works better as a YouTube video however, I don't have a channel at the moment and I am desperate to share these few products.

Most of them are beauty products and a couple aren't pictured as they are TV shows.

A month or so I hit rock bottom as I completely run out of foundation, it was literally the end of the world. Usually I wouldn't be so devastated but I had work and have been struggling with such bad skin at the moment, those red patches were not pretty to look at. Instead of heading to your usual drugstore brands I ventured to the No7 stand as I wanted to pay a little more for a better quality product and hey presto I purchased this Beautifully Matte Foundation in Calico - the perfect match to my skin tone. It is a medium to full coverage which was on the top of my list along with being matte to give me a flawless finish which wouldn't be troubled with my oily skin. I love it, and it lasts all day!!

Two of my newest Mac additions make the list in August; the Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skin Finish and the Mac Frost Lipstick in Angel, this is such a beautiful angelic pink shade with is super natural with a hint of shimmer, perfect for everyday wear. The highlighter, well what can I say, I have not used anything else since. It is so delicate and dreamy giving a natural shimmer, it is super build-able too if you want that super glowy summer look. Both were impulse purchases when I recently visited London for the weekend.

The last beauty product is this mini Benefit Ready Set Brow Gel that I got in a magazine a couple months back and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I have never known a gel work so well, my brows just don't budge for the full day, I cannot wait to go out and buy a full size one.

For most of this year I've been doing Slimming World, it is going alright but I could be doing so much better and probably lose the weight quicker if I don't sneak those biscuits and chocolates on an evening. A huge saviour for me are these hifi bars; they do come in different flavours and are pretty much a glorified cereal bar but are "meant" to be healthy - although it would be interesting to see how healthy they actually are. But hey, if they taste good I'm gonna eat them.

Finally, a couple of things which are not pictured that I have been loving throughout August are two television shows on Netflix; 90210 and Stranger Things. Ok, I've been obsessing over them, they are just too good and when I am hooked on a show I have to watch it until it has finished whether it has 20 something episodes a series or just eight I will get through them as soon as possible. Both very different shows but dramatic on very different levels, if you have some spare time I would definitely recommend watching Stranger Things.

Pulling Off Double Denim

I’m obsessed with this outfit, it might not look like I have put a lot of thought into it but there is something beautiful about pairing denim together, long gone are the days of it being a major fashion faux pas (writing this post makes me think back to the famous picture of David and Victoria Beckhams rocking the double denim couples outfit).

I love the contrast of the shades and fabrics of both denim pieces being teamed together, the light blue denim shirt which is more of a boyfriend, looser fit style to the black skinny jeans which are skin tight and heavier denim.

The wash of the shirt ties in so well with the rips of the jeans to give that edgier and causal feel dressed up with my favourite black heels from Topshop. I feel like this could be my go to look this autumn, teaming them with a mahoosive patterned scarf, sunglasses and handbag – perf combo!! If you don’t see any more outfit posts you know I’m just rocking this look every day.

If you have been following me for some time, you will understand that I have never been the biggest fan of jeans, I’ve always been more of a leggings kinda gal due to the fact that they are super soft and stretchy and well just very forgiving to a girl who loves food.

For me jeans are tight, shrink in the wash never forgiving and just spend their day digging into your waist causing crippling pain (well for a chubster like me).  To get them to feel comfortable around my waist they were always baggy around my legs (I only like the skinny jeans) and could never find the perfect pair. After a bit of weight loss I can whoop and holla that I can proudly fit into a pair of skinny jeans in a size 12, from River Island and fit like a glove!!

I feel like having a slab of cake to celebrate but that is kind of defeating the goal.

Holding Onto Summer

Denim Dress: Primark, Body: Next, Shoes: Primark, Watch: Michael Kors

The past week we have welcomed the official day of autumn and entered into the darker and colder months by bringing in September. The start of exciting festivities and the countdown to Christmas has now begun; deep down I am jumping for joy at the thought of cosy knits, woolly hats and festive coffees (oh the calories!)

I do love these next few months, they are my absolute faves but I am just not quite ready to wave goodbye to summer, well what we had of it anyway.

This denim shirt dress from Primark has been one of my go to pieces these past few months, it is so comfortable being loose fitting and more of a cotton fabric than denim and it just looks effortlessly stylish, all you need to do is throw it on and add some brogues or loafers and you are good to go.

Instead of lumping it at the bottom of my wardrobe or packing it away for another year it was time I got a little bit more creative and transitioned the dress into my autumn wardrobe. It is the most simplest of ideas but I cannot say I came up with it myself, it is all thanks to the high street stores; pairing a denim dress with a cute tee underneath; all hail layering!!!

By wearing this 3/4 sleeve body underneath is a smart way of adding an extra layer to add that warmth on a colder day without having to cover up with thick jumpers and coats. Not only that but the khaki shade added the autumnal vibe in the simplest way.
