Elf Cosmetics Haul

For a while I have been on the hunt to improve my make up brush collection, I don't really own that many as I thought that having the basics would be enough for me. How wrong was I?! I've started playing around with my make up and have the confidence to try and create different looks so I thought it was time to expand my tools.

At the minute I am on a very tight budget so even Real Technique brushes were out of my price range *sobs*, so it was time to do a little research and look much further. Elf Cosmetics has been bouncing around the bloggers twitter feed for some time but it never even crossed my mind to take a nosey at what they have to offer until now. They have such a great website, it was super easy to navigate and had fantastic choices from a range of brushes, to foundations, blushes and nail polishes etc.

On Tuesday I discovered that they had a one day 51% discount offer to celebrate their birthday, this was music to my ears and allowed me to pick up more products than I intended which worked out so much cheaper. Within purchasing the products, I received them two days later which is fantastic customer service.

Brushes:

Flat ended Foundation brush
Defining Eye Brush
Small Angled Brush
Bronzing Brush
Stippling Brush

Make Up:

Lipstick in Fearless
Shimmer in Pink
Baked Blush in Peachy Cheeky
Baked Eyeshadow in Pixie

These products have literally just arrived through the post, so I cannot say how well each of these products work. I will do a review of them fairly soon to let you know what I think and include swatches of what they look like.

A Body Conscious World

 Source: Pinterest

Every Summer I am one of those girls that flicks through magazines and goes on online websites looking at images of super skinny celebrities and models on the beach or modeling the latest swimwear range. I have to say that for me and I know other girls will admit that it is very demoralising, I am never going to get that flat toned stomach, toned arms and legs, no matter how healthy I eat and how many times a week I go to the gym.

Ever since I was younger I have always been very body conscious, whether it is my weight, my looks or how I dress and even speak which is ridiculous, no young girl or even woman should have to worry about that and have all that riding on their shoulders, it is the time to go out have fun, be happy whilst young. We live in a body conscious world with critics all around us, whether it is nasty journalists on TV, the paparazzi picking up a little belly fold or cellulite on a celeb or a school bully, it will never leave you.

But, forget that, forget everything, we should be proud of the way we look, the world would not be a normal place if everyone looked the same. It is like our personalities, we don't want to be locked inside a room with everyone who act exactly the same it just wouldn't work.

Back in November, as you might have been aware from previous posts I decided it was about time to make a change in my life, I was struggling in my final year of university, uncomfortable in my own skin, unhappy a lot of the time, very shy and just completely drained. I started working at the University bar and serving drunk students makes you have to have a little bit of whit about you, no good just cowering away in the corner, by self esteem stepped up drastically and I found myself have a laugh with people I wouldn't normally feel comfortable around.

The next step was the gym, my Uni had the cutest little gym which was situated in my halls or residence so I literally had no excuse as I walked passed it every single day. It was quite daunting for me, especially when it was filled with all the guys huddled around the free weights section. I booked myself a personal training session to get myself used to the equipment, what worked best for me and the perfect program for myself.

I have to say I have never looked back since, some days I wake up thinking I cannot be bothered to go to the gym, but once I am there I do fully enjoy myself, I kind of go into my own little world and ignore everyone around me. Slowly but surely progress has been made, nine months has passed and even though I have only dropped down around 4lb to 5lb there is a noticeable difference in my body.
My shape has changed so much, if I look at myself in the mirror I don't particularly notice it, but when I find myself being able to wear little shorts again, clothes which didn't fit me before now do and clothes that are quite baggy on me now, you know something has worked.

I'm no expert on fitness but I feel that I can reassure people and make them aware of how a little bit of fitness can change your life. You don't need to go to the gym, do stuff at home it will work just the same.

I hope that this post has helped someone out there, even if it is just one person. I also hope I didn't bore anyone with how long it is either, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Instagram Update #2

The other month I thought it would be nice for my readers to add a post at the end of every month of a few snippets from Instagram of what I have been getting up to that month. By doing this, I have given myself the challenge of photographing things around me that interest me, are not all "selfies" and what I feel are inspirational.

I hope that you enjoy this post, I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on this.

Hair Tutorial : Curls

This post I something new for me, I am not quite sure how it is going to work as I feel YouTube is the place to do hair tutorials, but hey ho we shall give it a go.

My hair is ridiculously flat and straight which frustrates me so much as I just want to have beautiful beach waves. In my free time I like to play around with different looks, watch numerous hair tutorials to get new ideas. I love to curl my hair but sometimes it takes quite a while as I seem to have a lot of hair all of a sudden, and when I want to get ready I always seem to run out of time to do this. However, for some reason I only curled the very ends of my hair and I loved it, so I thought why not do a tutorial.

How To Create:

1. I washed my hair and used Superdrug Mousse and Vo5 volume boost to the roots of my hair to add a bit of volume.

2. I dried my hair and used my straighteners to add a little volume by pulling the roots upwards and then down.

3. Then I took small sections of my hair at a time and took my straighteners curled it under.

4. Keep doing this all the way around your hair until it is completed, if you have any layers, curl the ends of them too.

5. If you have a sweeping fringe, take each side and with your straighteners pull them upwards and backwards.

6. Once you are happy with this look, add a bit of hairspray to hold the curls.

7. If you want some volume to the roots, backcomb your hair using whatever brush you prefer and I use the Vo5 backcombing spray.

8. Go over your hair again with some hairspray and you should now have created this look.

I hope that these steps were easy enough to follow,  I hope that you like this look, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

p.s. I need to get myself a tripod so the pictures are much clearer for you all

Bold Lip and Eye Flick Tutorial

It's that year where me and my friends are all turning 21, and yes you guessed it, time to have some major celebrations. Now, as your well aware, no one wants to turn up to all the parties in the same outfit you wore last time, and same goes to hair and make up. I wanted something different each time and to experiment more with the products I own and last weekend I created a look which I actually quite liked and felt like I want to share it with you all.

So here goes the tutorial...

How To Create:

1. As I do each time I apply my make up, I take my Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer in 002 and applied it to face, eyes and down the neck a little.

2. I let that dry a little and then went in with the Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC20 with the Real Techniques Face Expert brush blending it down the neck so I don't have any lines across my jawline and it blends it better with the tone of my skin. To make sure it was fully blending I used my Mac 187 Stippling brush.

3. Focusing on the eyes next, I used a range of shadows, firstly the Mac shadow in Sweet Satisfaction across the whole lid, then I used the Nooner and then Liar from my Naked 3 Palette across the crease, make sure you don't rush and it has blended in well.

4. I then took Buzz from the palette and placed it across the middle of my eye lid making sure it blend into the crease and outer of the eye. For the inner of the eye I took Buzz which is the perfect shimmery light pink to brighten the look.

5. Taking my Soap & Glory eye liner pen, I drew a small line on my top lash line and added a thick flick at the end. I'm quite rubbish at this step so take your time, and practice!! (F.Y.I use small cotton buds to remove any mistakes.

6. If you have any eye lash curlers, then use these to try and make your lashes look nice and big and then apply the mascara. I used Maybelline Great Lash Mascara but obviously you can use one of your choice.

7. Once your are happy with your eyes, take a concealer and put over any blemishes or problem areas and under your eyes to brighten them up. My choice was the Collection Concealer in Cool Medium 2.

8. If you use any powder, I took the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in 006 Warm Beige to set my foundation and to remove any oily areas.

9. At the minute I am loving he contour effect, nothing too drastic though, I used a couple of products here, my Benefit Hoola and the bronzer from Benefit 10. I sucked in my cheeks and using my Real Techniques blusher brush I swept it just under my cheekbones, however only go part way down your face.

10. Once this has blended well and going to your temples slightly, your ready for your blush. I used my new favourite product No7. Sunkissed Moasaic bronzing powder and placed it on the apples of my cheeks sweeping upwards. The most important part is that it doesn't look too dark and is fully blended.

11. A little bit of shimmer is important here, I have just discovered a Body Shop highlighter amongst all my products, I put this on the top of my forehead, down the arch of my nose and across the tops of the cheekbones.

12. For some reason I always leave my brows til last, so if your not one for filling it in then just miss this step out. Take whatever brow product your loving at the minute, mine being Benefit Brow zing and fill in those brows!!

 13.  Now, this is something I do not normally do so I decided it was about time I took my Nars Velvet Lip Pencil and make a bold statement. Obviously any red lipstick will do the trick here.

VoilĂ  you have one finished look!!

I hope that these steps were helpful and easy to follow, I'd love to hear what you think and also see your attempts at it.
